Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, ELCA, was founded in 1889 by German Lutheran immingrants to Racine. Until 1921, services were held in German. The first church building, dedicated in November 1889, was a stone structure on today's present site. It measured 30x45'. Over the years as our family of faith grew, so did our building, with additions in 1904 amnd 1927. Today's present building, begun in 1949, was dedicated in 1951, with an additional wing added in 1963.
Emmanuel originally belonged to the Wartburg Synod, which later became a part of the Lutheran Church in America in 1963, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in 1987.
